What is power flushing?
A power flush is a deep clean of your entire central heating system using specialised equipment. High-velocity water mixed with cleaning chemicals is forced through every radiator and pipe in the system, breaking up and removing the black sludge (magnetite), limescale, and corrosion debris that accumulates over years.
The result: water flows freely through the system again, every radiator heats fully, the boiler runs efficiently, and your gas bills drop noticeably.
Do you need a power flush?
You probably do if any of these apply to your Bedford home:
Sludge has settled at the lowest point of each radiator, blocking water flow through the lower section.
This is iron oxide (rust) — the system has been corroding internally for years.

Sentinel X400 or Fernox F3 — industrial-strength descaler and corrosion remover. Circulates for 30-60 minutes to break up debris.
Each radiator flushed separately — high-velocity water reverses through each, dislodging sludge. Watch the colour change in the waste line — black at first, gradually clearing.
Clean water flushed through entire system until running clear. Multiple rinse cycles ensure all chemical residue is removed.
Sentinel X100 or Fernox F1 corrosion inhibitor added at correct concentration. System refilled, balanced, and tested.
Magnaclean Professional 2 or equivalent fitted on return pipe. Catches future debris before it reaches the boiler. Strongly recommended — typically £140 extra and pays for itself in extended boiler life.
Written BS7593 compliance certificate issued — required for many boiler warranties (Worcester, Vaillant, Ideal). System tested for full operation.
