The story
George Ilie has been working in plumbing and heating for over 17 years. That's a lot of frozen pipes thawed, broken boilers brought back to life, late-night emergencies sorted, and bathrooms transformed.
Like most tradespeople, George started learning the practical way — by watching, asking, and doing. Years of experience working alongside qualified plumbers and heating engineers, building up the skills that you can't get from a textbook: knowing what a pump sounds like before it fails, recognising the smell of an early gas leak, spotting a corroded pipe behind a wall before it bursts.
That practical experience was formalised through NVQ Plumbing & Heating qualifications and City & Guilds certifications — but the real value is the 17 years of seeing every kind of plumbing problem a Bedford home can throw at you.
How the business works
The business is straightforward by design.
You call the number on this site, George answers. Not a receptionist. Not a call centre in another city. Not a sub-contracted "approved engineer" you've never spoken to. The person who picks up the phone is the same person who turns up at your door.
For most plumbing emergencies — burst pipes, blocked drains, water leaks, central heating issues — George works directly. For gas-related work (boiler installations, gas safety certificates, gas leak investigations), he works alongside a Gas Safe Registered partner engineer, in full compliance with UK law. By law, only Gas Safe Registered engineers can legally work on gas appliances, and the partner is credited transparently on every job.
This setup means you get the responsiveness and personal accountability of a sole trader, combined with the legal compliance and technical capability of a registered gas engineer when it's needed.
